Noquisi Initiative presents a day for Cherokee and Appalachian cultural experience and fun. Join us at Hickory Nut Gap Farm to learn about the people of this place from early Cherokee to today.

About the event

A cultural extravaganza mingling Cherokee and Appalachian artisans, performers, and foods! This is a free event for cultural celebration and a new trail kiosk dedication. It is located at Hickory Nut Gap Farm. 

The festival will include:

  • Live entertainment including: An indigenous flute performance and storytelling by Jarrett Wildcat, the Igali Puppet Performers sharing Cherokee language, dance performances with the Warriors of Anikituhwa, bluegrass music by Andrew Wakefield, and the Aniyvwiyahi Analsgisgi dancers. 
  • Live speakers including Cherokee Miss Royalties speaking on their platforms. They will also be assisting in the ribbon cutting and available for meet & greets. 
  • Kiosk dedication ceremony.
  • Food will be available through the Native Nummies Food Truck serving frybread tacos and the Hickory Nut Gap Farm Grill.
  • Beverages will be vended by MerTail Mocktails (NA) Their elixirs are organic and wildcrafted, featuring bioregional diversity throughout the Americas and Appalachian folk medicine formulated into beverage concentrates that are colorful, flavorful and steeped in energetics and herbs.
  • Native and non-native craft vendors ranging from paintings, pottery, basketry, beading, painting, fiber, cornhusk dolls, jewelry, and copperwork!
  • Come out and celebrate culture with us! Dance with the Warriors, enjoy Forest Bathing, Face Painting, Cherokee Flute, Bluegrass foot tapping music and much more!

The Ani & Wanei Culture Fest brings two principal mountain cultures together in music, art, and food! 

 

There is fun and learning for the whole family!Here, you can try out some Cherokee words, taste frybread tacos, or even participate in a traditional Cherokee Friendship dance. Relax and listen to Appalachian Bluegrass or the haunting sounds of a Native American flute. Browse the traditional wares of painter, potter, weaver, beader, jeweler, fiberist, and carver.
